Debakalis

One of my dear friends, Eddie Debarr, joined forces with Project Runway alumni Johnny Sakalis to form the fashion powerhouse Debakalis. Their debut presentation, Sirens, was a small collection of gorgeous dresses, along with leather and shell accents. It was TRULY gorgeous and enhanced by the modeling skill of my wife, Frankie! Here are some more images of the team:

I also took a lil' snap of my outfit for the evening, complete with my new Jeffrey Campbell shoes and Domino Dollhouse's new Dotty Collection sample skirt.

I'm heading out in a few hours to attend my first vending event (and fashion show!) for Domino Dollhouse at the Re/Dress party this weekend. I'm a huge mix of emotions, from incredibly excited the for the adventure I'm about to take, to fear for the turnout, to sadness for Re/Dress closing. Yesterday, my husband and I got some very scary news that make this event all the more important to us (no, no, I am not pregnant). We will be totally fine, but emotions and stresses are running high!

I just ask that if you love my blog, my shop, or simply want plus size designers + shops to thrive, just take the time to throw up a link to the event, share a link on Facebook, tweet about it, write the details on your naked body and take a picture, whatever! Whether you can make it or not, if you love plus size fashion, help out Re/Dress and ALL of the designers who are coming so that we can keep pushing boundaries and giving everyone the options that they deserve.

Men's Fashion Guide On Wearing Socks

To contact us Click HERE
Socks, probably one of the most overlooked article of clothing, actually have the capacity to render a man's respectability to zero if they are worn wrong. Even if you are wearing a thousand dollar suit and an equally expensive pair of leather shoes, they will all seem irrelevant if you pair them with white gym socks.
So to prevent you from making a fool out of yourself because of poor sock choices, here is a short guide on how a real man chooses and wears socks.
1. Dress shoes warrant the use of dress socks
Even if your sports socks are black you should never wear them with classy dress shoes. Athletic socks have a thick and rather fluffy weave, so they do not really match with the sleek and stylish look of dress shoes. If you do try to wear your gym socks with dress shoes you will find that they bunch over the sides and top of the shoes, which looks a bit goofy.
And do not by any means commit the sin of wearing white socks with dress shoes! Doing this just instantly advertises to anyone (and every woman) in your vicinity that you are completely clueless when it comes to dressing yourself.
2. Your socks should match your pants, not shoes
A lot of people are confused with this rule, a lot of people still think that the socks should match the color of the shoes, which is incorrect. The reason why socks should match the pants is because when you are sitting down (which is the only time that your socks are clearly visible) you want a solid line of color that connects your pants to your shoes. If you have socks that do not match your pants it creates a break in the line of color which breaks the flow of your entire outfit.
3. Do not wear socks when wearing sandals or shorts
Sandals are designed to be worn with just your bare feet, you will only look goofy if you wear socks with your sandals so do not even bother.
Another occasion where socks should be avoided is when wearing shorts. Socks with shorts will only make your legs look stumpy. If you really do need to wear socks with your shorts, invest in a good pair of ankle socks that are not so visible over your shoes.
4. Novelty socks are a No No
If you really want to be taken seriously then why would you want to wear bright yellow socks with SpongeBob Squarepants embroidered at the sides? The only people that these kinds of socks will ever look good on are those aged 3 or below, so if you can read this guide then you are probably too old to wear novelty socks.

Savant Clothing Focus on Value

To contact us Click HERE
Savant Clothing have at last given us a reason to like this time of year, as yet again retailers are trying to throw every possible bargain at you and convince you that you are getting more for your money. The question is who benefits from the bargain culture retailers now rely on? It's at times like this when we are even more grateful to have introduced to us a brand like Savant Clothing that stops us in our tracks, and makes us giggle inside and out.
The clothing label 'Savant' is very new to the retail world and only having been launched into the UK in 2011, it has already made a stance and its mark, as a brand that has attitude. Each product this label creates is unique and individually crafted for the wearer, so that he feels a part of this fantastic craftsmanship.
On trend t-shirts are the biggest seller for the UK brand, making sure that each style is adorned by controversial imagery; there is no need to show any red-blooded Man the price tag, because the design is enough to make their mind up. Taking the high streets by storm as their wearers prance up and down, wearing t-shirts with eye-catching pictures, that will make even the prudish of people stop and stare. Ranging from the outlandish 'Cig Girl' to the more sexual charged 'Film Strip' and not stopping there the beautiful girls of the 'Band Girl' tee draped over musical instruments are enough to make anyone's jaw drop. Wanting to go that one step further 'Savant' have brought us a range of sweats, with the same saucy, controversial images, that take pride of place on the chest of the male wearer, this is one brand that truly knows how to twist the arms of male shoppers.
Other brands have tried to tread on the toes of this outlandish brand, but none have yet matched the quality and craftsmanship that each individual item screams out. This brand has taken the ordinary, everyday t-shirt we all know and given it a completely new lease of life. We all need to break out of our shells and show our true inner selves once in a while, and one of the best ways to express this feeling is through the way we look and the clothes in which we choose to wear. This new excitement is all thanks to the Savant Clothing team, and the great garments they have produced over the last year.

OOTD: Tim Burton

October proved to be quite busy and November isn't letting up. I just got back from a 2 week trip down the west coast for my anniversary (10 years together, 2 years married), full of shopping, visiting, + eating. I did a pretty good job of documenting our adventures, so stay tuned for some fun snaps! Right before we left, Joe and I headed to LACMA in Beverly Hills for the Tim Burton art exhibit. It was so, so amazing and while they did not allow photography inside, there were some choice areas to take pictures. And thus, I present a Tim Burton-y OOTD, complete with my new green hair.

Honeymoonaversary Pic Post

Hello Chubblettes! Thank you for sticking with my blog, even though I've been traveling so much that I haven't been able to update. The great thing about that, however, is that I've been building up lots of good content to share with you. First up on the back log of post topics is the 2 week trip my husband and I took in honor of 10 years together/2 years married. After we got married, we focused on trying to purchase a house rather than taking a honeymoon. So, our honeymoon did come, just 2 years overdue! We flew up to Seattle and rented a car to drive down the coast, visiting Olympia, Portland, San Francisco, and San Luis Obispo. It was a trip full of site seeing, visiting family, eating, and shopping. I even had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful fatties along the way! For each city's images, click on the thumbnail to see it larger on my Flickr. Let's start with Seattle.

Seattle
We'd never visited this city and was wonderfully surprised with its offerings. We stayed in Capitol Hill and mostly kept our wanderings within walking distance from our hotel. Here we spent countless hours in our in room hot tub, ate the greatest cupcakes ever made, and visited a private goth club. It was a little cold for my lightweight jacket, but our Ohio blood helped us maintain. We left with full bellies and the most amazing All Saint's Necklace that will appear in many following photos.

Olympia:
We stopped here on our way to Portland because I wanted to see the town and indulge in a little Riot Grrl nostalgia. We had amazing calzones, found an adorable gift stop, and had skully mochas at Burial Grounds. Short and brief, it was still a beautiful town with the most amazing fall foliage I think I've ever seen.

Portland:
Portland was both a honeymoon stop + a family visit, as we spent the first half with my sister in law and her boyfriend. It also fell on Halloween, so we got all dressed up and went to Dante's for fire dancing gogo girls, cocktails, and freakshow delights! My husband and I were classic monsters, choosing Frankenstein's Monster and a Mummy, respectively. I loved my mummy costume, though I think I could perfect it for future use. This was also the only spot on our trip where I had easy access to plus size gear in the form of Fat Fancy and Savvy Plus! Both had amazingly friendly staffs who were positive, kind, and very knowledgeable. I snapped some pics of Fat Fancy, thanks to one of the co-owners, Annie, who was super amazing and has a killer Miss Piggy Collection. Fat Fancy photos get their own lil' section in this write up:

At Savvy Plus, I was in a bit of a rush to get to other plans to capture photos, but I did score a fabulous velvet blazer and knee high black velvet Dr Martens! These will start appearing in OOTDs very soon. I did not get to visit Size Queen while I was there, but I met the owner/designer, Bertha Pearl, at Re/Dress last month and I highly recommend visiting her shop too! While in Portland, we had our 2 year wedding anniversary and celebrated with fabulous Italian food. We stayed at the Jupiter Inn, which has to be one of the most overrated hotels in history. DO NOT recommend.

San Francisco:
We spent most of our time here hanging out with my sister + brother in law and our nephew, so we didn't really snap any photos suitable for this blog. We did do some serious damage at Five and Diamond, an amazing steampunky, tribal belly dance type store. I purchase leather bow-clad sock garters which will DEFINITELY be shared on here soon. On our way out, we stopped by the Winchester Mystery House, which is INCREDIBLE, but did not allow photos, sadly.

Madonna Inn/San Luis Obispo:
I had been told by so many people since moving to California 7 years ago that I needed to visit the Madonna Inn that I lost count. Turns out: they were right! We choose the "Merry" room (part of a 3 room series called Merry Go and Round), primarily because it has pink sparkly walls. Upon checking in, we were greeted with Happy Anniversary balloons and champagne! Their customer service is top notch and everything they use is so pink...it's a little like heaven. We spent a full day exploring the grounds, including their gift shops, amazing pool + spa area, and multiple restaurants. They serve pink sugar for your coffee in little shakers and a rainbow array of water goblets at each table. For our dinner, we were given free pink champagne cake for our celebration and it is fantastic! I seriously recommend that if you have the opportunity you should at least visit this place. It's incredible and was a wonderful end to our trip.

We had a wonderful time, but 2 weeks is a long time to be away from our pets and my business. When we got home, I had 7 days to prepare Domino Dollhouse's collections for the Re/Dress NYC Indie+ event. Which will be my next blog post...stay tuned!
